Students are usually terrified at certain subjects like Anatomy. They should not be. As the latest trends suggest that new online Examinations are more clinically oriented a grasp of Clinical knowledge and image based Knowledge is more important. A small portion of questions are now based on one liner and memory based approach and NEET Pg exams are more conceptual now. It is more like USMLE Exam pattern.

Important Topics in Anatomy

Along with Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Anatomy is a major NEET Subject. Anatomy is a tougher subject but an important one. There are multiple Regional sub branches of anatomy like

  • Upper limb
  • Lower limb
  • Thorax
  • Abdomen
  • Pelvis
  • Head and Neck
  • Neuroanatomy

As Anatomy is a vast subject and very difficult to memorize, a student finds it difficult to prepare it .Abdomen as a region is important in Regional Anatomy.

On Every NEET or FMGE Aspirants mind is what needs to be prepared from Abdomen. Our Experts have provided below mentioned information in this regard.

Do not underestimate

  • Clinical Embryology
  • Clinical Histology
  • Applied Aspects of All Regions
  • Image Based Scenarios

  1. Falciform ligament
  2. Gastrosplenic ligament
  3. Greater Omentum
  4. Ligamentum  venosum

Clinically Oriented Anatomy Question

  4. Stomach

Clinically Oriented Anatomy Question

A 45 year   old   male is brought to the surgical OPD after repeated coffee-ground vomiting. He is in shock.  After initial stabilization, endoscopy is performed revealing a deep, bleeding ulcer on the posterior wall of the duodenal bulb. This ulcer has most likely penetrated which of the following arteries?

  1. Common hepatic
  2. Right gastroepiploic
  3. Left gastric
  4. Gastroduodenal

Now Clinical Oriented Questions are asked. Examples are:

Examples of Topics frequently asked:

What a NEET PG aspirant should at least know. (Examples of Topics below)

The Kidneys

  • Bean shaped.
  • Retroperitoneal (Asked in NEET PG Anatomy)
  • Right kidney is lower than left (but right suprarenal is higher than left.) (Asked in NEET PG Anatomy)
  • Each kidney is 9 to 15 cm. long, 4 to 5 cm. wide, and approximately 3 cm. thick They are located on each side of the vertebral column between the parietal perineum and the fascia and musculature of the posterior abdominal wall and are embedded in a variable amount of fat and surrounded by a layer of fascia (Gerota's fascia) (Asked in NEET PG Anatomy)
  • They lie on the side of the psoas muscle.
  • They are not parallel, with the upper poles being approximately 2 cm. from the midline and the lower poles approximately 3.5 cm. from the midline.

The Blood supply to the stomach

  • left gastric artery, which supplies the upper lesser curvature of the stomach from celiac trunk . (Asked in NEET PG Anatomy)
  • The right gastric artery branches off the hepatic artery, which originates from the celiac axis; it supplies blood to the distal lesser curvature. (Asked in NEET PG Anatomy)
  • The left gastroepiploic artery is a branch off the short gastric vessels; it comes from the splenic and therefore originally from the celiac axis. (Asked in NEET PG Anatomy)
  • The right gastroepiploic artery branches off the gastroduodenal artery, which comes originally from the hepatic artery and therefore from the celiac axis. (Asked in NEET PG Anatomy)
  • The venous drainage of the stomach empties in a variety of directions, including venous tributaries along the esophagus, veins that flow with the short gastrics to the splenic vein, and venous drainage that is carried toward the duodenum and toward the portal vein .

The Pancreas

  • Is a retroperitoneal organ , lying posterior to the stomach and lesser omentum.
  • It extends from the duodenal C loop to the hilum of the spleen . (Asked in NEET PG Anatomy)
  • The gland has a distinctive yellow/tan/pink color and is multilobulated.
  • The pancreas is covered by peritoneum anteriorly, and posteriorly it lies in proximity to the inferior vena cava, right renal vein, aorta at the level of the first lumbar vertebra, superior mesenteric vessels, and splenic vein. (Asked in NEET PG Anatomy)

This gives you an insight as to what is asked from Regional Anatomy. Abdomen is an important region. You can expect questions in Anatomy as well as Surgery from this important topic. NEET PG aspirants should focus on Anatomy with seriousness and expect a lot of questions especially from abdomen.
